The farmhouse overlooking the Yatsugatake

A little over 100 years old, Kinkei belonged to a family that sold oil for a living. Alex Kerr chose this farmhouse for its evocative location. Its position just beyond a creek with a gurgling river running in front of the house and an old wooden bridge the previous owner crossed to get home all create a nostalgic atmosphere.

In the living area, the magnificent scenery of the Yatsugatake Mountains is framed by a large window that incorporates the beam's curve.

The crisscrossing aged beams dominate the space above the dining and living area. The contrast of the blackened shafts against the hazel ceiling is one of the highlights of this house.

In the tatami room, the artistic space of the decorative alcove stands side by side with the natural scenery of the Yatsugatake visible through the window.

At night, the farmhouse is enveloped in an atmosphere of calm, only interrupted by the occasional chorus of insects.

Every farmhouse is provided with a full set of dishware, glassware, and cutlery, some of which are traditional ceramic and lacquer works.

Sleeping arrangements consist of one twin bedroom and one tatami room where we can lay out up to three futons.
